Tivat Airport is the closest airport to Kotor, sitting only around 8–10 kilometers from the Old Town depending on the route and exact destination. Under normal traffic conditions, the drive can take only 12–15 minutes, which makes this one of the shortest airport transfers on the Adriatic coast. The surprising part is that getting from the terminal to Kotor by public transport is less straightforward than the distance suggests.
There is currently no dedicated public airport bus that leaves directly from the Tivat Airport terminal and reliably takes arriving passengers to Kotor. Travelers looking for the cheapest option can walk approximately 1.5 kilometers to Tivat Bus Station and take one of the frequent intercity buses to Kotor, with the bus itself commonly costing only a few euros. Another budget method is to try to catch a passing Kotor-bound bus from the main road close to the airport, but this is less predictable and should not be treated like a scheduled airport shuttle.
For most travelers with luggage, a taxi or pre-booked transfer is much simpler. Current local taxi company pricing puts a pre-arranged Tivat Airport to Kotor Old Town transfer at around €30 per vehicle, while on-the-spot taxi prices can vary according to company, season, traffic and exactly where around Kotor Bay you are staying. If you are planning the rest of the trip budget as well, our guide to Montenegro travel costs in 2026 covers accommodation, buses, food, car rental and realistic daily spending around Kotor and the rest of the country.
Tivat Airport to Kotor: Quick Comparison
- Distance from Tivat Airport to Kotor: approximately 8–10 km.
- Taxi or transfer travel time: approximately 12–20 minutes in light traffic.
- Dedicated airport bus from the terminal: no reliable scheduled airport shuttle currently operates directly to Kotor.
- Walk to Tivat Bus Station: approximately 1.5 km or around 18–20 minutes.
- Tivat Bus Station to Kotor bus: generally around €1–5 depending on departure and booking method.
- Bus journey from Tivat station to Kotor: normally around 10–20 minutes.
- Pre-booked Red Taxi transfer to Kotor Old Town: currently €30 per vehicle.
- Roadside bus near the airport: potentially very cheap but less reliable because not every intercity bus is guaranteed to stop.

- Bolt: not available in Montenegro.
- Local ride app: MonteGO operates with licensed drivers around Tivat and Kotor.
What Is the Cheapest Way From Tivat Airport to Kotor?
The cheapest reliable method is to walk from Tivat Airport to Tivat Bus Station and then take an intercity bus to Kotor. The airport and bus station are only around 1.5 kilometers apart, and the walk usually takes approximately 18–20 minutes.
From Tivat Bus Station, buses to Kotor operate throughout the day and the actual ride is very short. Current schedules put the road distance at roughly 8–9 kilometers and typical travel times around 10–20 minutes, although summer congestion can extend the journey considerably. Current ticket searches generally place the fare in the €1–5 range, with approximately €2 being a useful benchmark for many departures.
This means a traveler who is comfortable walking with luggage can potentially reach Kotor for only a few euros rather than paying around €30 for a private car.
The drawback is obvious: the journey involves walking beside roads rather than stepping onto a dedicated airport shuttle. In July or August, with a large suitcase and temperatures around the summer peak, saving €20–25 may not feel worthwhile.
Is There a Direct Bus From Tivat Airport to Kotor?
Not in the conventional airport-bus sense. Tivat Airport does not currently have a dedicated scheduled public transport service that waits outside the terminal and runs directly to Kotor throughout the day.
This distinction matters because some websites describe Tivat Airport as having a direct bus to Kotor simply because intercity buses travel along the nearby Adriatic road. Those buses are not the same thing as a formal airport shuttle with a terminal stop, dedicated timetable and guaranteed boarding.
Some intercity buses traveling toward Kotor can stop near the airport if there is space and the driver is willing or scheduled to do so. Travelers do use this method successfully, but it is less predictable than traveling from the actual Tivat Bus Station.
Option 1: Walk to Tivat Bus Station and Take a Bus
For travelers whose main priority is minimizing cost, walking to Tivat Bus Station is the most dependable budget strategy.
The station is approximately 1.5 kilometers from the airport terminal. A normal walk takes around 18 minutes, although luggage, heat and road conditions can slow you down.
Once you reach the station, Kotor is one of the easiest destinations to continue toward because Tivat and Kotor are connected by numerous intercity services. Current timetable data shows many departures throughout the day and a normal scheduled journey of approximately 10–20 minutes.
How Much Is the Bus From Tivat to Kotor?
Current route searches generally show Tivat Bus Station to Kotor tickets in the range of approximately €1–5, depending on operator and booking channel, with an average around €2 on some current schedules.
The lowest displayed ticket is not always the entire cost. Montenegro bus travel can include small additional charges for luggage, and online booking platforms or bus stations can also have their own service or station fees.
For realistic planning, approximately €3–5 total per person is a safer airport-to-Kotor bus budget once minor extras are considered, even though the underlying bus fare can be lower.
How Long Is the Bus From Tivat to Kotor?
The scheduled journey is extremely short. Current timetable data gives approximately 10–20 minutes for many departures and around 16–17 minutes as a typical average.
That does not mean you will always reach Kotor in fifteen minutes. The road around the Bay of Kotor can become heavily congested during July and August, especially when several flights, cruise ships and day visitors are moving through the area at the same time.
A journey that takes barely fifteen minutes in quiet conditions can therefore take substantially longer during the summer peak.
How Often Do Buses Run From Tivat to Kotor?
The Tivat–Kotor route has numerous daily services operated by different intercity companies rather than one single high-frequency city operator. Current timetable databases show departures across most of the day, although the exact frequency changes according to date and season.
Because multiple operators use the route, checking the current timetable on the day of travel is more useful than memorizing one departure list several months in advance.
Summer usually provides the greatest number of departures, while winter schedules can be less dense.
Where Does the Bus Arrive in Kotor?
Intercity buses arrive at Kotor Bus Station in Škaljari. The station is conveniently located just outside the historic center.
From Kotor Bus Station, the Old Town is roughly a 5–10 minute walk depending on which entrance you use and how much luggage you are carrying.
This makes the bus particularly useful for travelers staying inside Kotor Old Town or immediately around its southern side. If your accommodation is farther along the bay in Dobrota, Muo or Prčanj, you may still need another local bus or taxi after arriving at Kotor Bus Station.
Is Walking From Tivat Airport to the Bus Station Easy?
The distance itself is not difficult, but the walking environment is not equivalent to an airport with a purpose-built pedestrian connection.
The station is only about 1.5 kilometers away, and travelers regularly cover the route on foot, but parts of the journey are alongside roads with limited pedestrian infrastructure. A backpacker with light luggage may consider this perfectly manageable, whereas someone pulling a large suitcase in August may find it unpleasant.
This option makes the most sense if:
- You are traveling with a backpack or light luggage.
- You arrive during daylight.
- The weather is comfortable.
- You want to minimize the transfer cost.
- You are comfortable walking around 20 minutes after a flight.
A taxi or pre-arranged transfer is probably better if you have several suitcases, small children, reduced mobility or arrive late in the evening.
Option 2: Catch a Passing Bus Near Tivat Airport
There is an even cheaper and faster variation used by experienced budget travelers: walking a few hundred meters from the terminal toward the main road and trying to board a Kotor-bound intercity bus without going all the way to Tivat Bus Station.
There is a roadside stopping area roughly 400 meters from the airport that travelers often refer to as the Tivat Airport bus stop. Buses traveling between the coast and Tivat pass the airport area, and some drivers will stop for passengers heading toward Kotor.
The important word is some.
This is not a reliable airport shuttle stop where every Kotor bus is guaranteed to collect passengers. Recent traveler reports in 2026 remain mixed: some passengers have successfully boarded or left buses near the airport, while others report that buses may continue past when full or when the driver is not taking unscheduled passengers.
How Much Does the Roadside Bus Cost?
Travelers generally report paying only a few euros, broadly similar to the normal Tivat–Kotor bus fare. Large luggage can result in an additional small baggage charge.
The financial saving compared with walking to Tivat Bus Station is minimal because the normal station ticket is already inexpensive. The real advantage is avoiding most of the walk.
Should You Rely on the Airport Road Bus Stop?
Not if you have an important schedule, arrive after dark or simply want a predictable journey.
The roadside method works better as a budget travel hack than as the default recommendation for a first-time visitor. You may have to flag a bus, confirm with the driver that it is actually heading to Kotor and accept that a full vehicle may not stop.
If waiting beside the road for an uncertain bus does not sound appealing after a flight, walking to the formal bus station or booking a taxi is a much more straightforward solution.
Option 3: Taxi From Tivat Airport to Kotor
Taxi is the simplest option for most travelers. You leave the terminal, put your luggage in the car and arrive directly at your accommodation in Kotor roughly fifteen minutes later when traffic is light.
The difficulty is price consistency. Airports of Montenegro publishes the distance and estimated driving time to Kotor but does not currently publish one official fixed taxi tariff from Tivat Airport to every Kotor address.
That means the fare can differ according to taxi company, whether you pre-book, season and where exactly you are staying.
How Much Is a Taxi From Tivat Airport to Kotor?
A useful 2026 planning range for an ordinary Tivat Airport to Kotor taxi is approximately €15–30, but you should confirm the actual fare before entering the vehicle rather than assuming the lowest possible local meter rate will apply at the airport.
One established local company, Red Taxi, currently publishes a fixed airport transfer price of €30 from Tivat Airport to Kotor Old Town. Its published fare is also €30 to Muo and €35 to Dobrota or Prčanj.
- Tivat Airport to Kotor Old Town: €30 with Red Taxi’s current published transfer tariff.
- Tivat Airport to Muo: €30.
- Tivat Airport to Dobrota: €35.
- Tivat Airport to Prčanj: €35.
- Tivat Airport to Perast: €45.
These figures are useful because they show why saying simply that a taxi to Kotor costs €10 can be misleading. The physical distance is short, but airport transfer pricing is not necessarily the same as a normal local taxi ride between two nearby streets.
Can You Negotiate a Taxi at Tivat Airport?
You may encounter different quoted prices, but there is little reason to begin your Montenegro trip with an argument over a taxi fare when you can contact a licensed company or local ride service and know the expected cost before getting into the car.
If you take a taxi from the airport rank, ask for the approximate total price before departure or ensure that the charging method is clear.
Taxi overcharging is a more realistic visitor concern in Montenegro than serious personal-security problems, particularly around airports and tourism hotspots. Our Montenegro solo travel safety guide includes more practical advice on using licensed taxis and handling transport independently.
Option 4: MonteGO and Local Taxi Apps
Montenegro does not currently have Uber or Bolt, but it does have local ride-booking alternatives. One of the most useful in the Bay of Kotor area in 2026 is MonteGO.
MonteGO connects passengers with licensed local drivers in Tivat and Kotor and shows the proposed or estimated fare before the journey is confirmed. Airport pickups are supported, and the service currently advertises 24-hour driver availability in the Tivat and Kotor area.
The app lists Tivat Airport to Kotor at approximately 10 kilometers and around 15 minutes in normal conditions.
For intercity transfers, the platform allows you to propose a price and receive responses from nearby drivers rather than relying on one permanent airport tariff. This makes it useful for comparing your actual arrival-day price against a conventional taxi quote.
Does Uber Work at Tivat Airport?
No. Uber does not currently operate in Montenegro.
Does Bolt Work at Tivat Airport?
No. Bolt does not currently operate in Montenegro either.
If you normally land at a European airport and immediately open Bolt or Uber, install a local alternative or arrange a taxi before traveling to Montenegro.
Option 5: Pre-Booked Private Transfer
A private transfer is the easiest but generally not the cheapest way to reach Kotor. The driver knows your flight details, waits for you after arrival and takes you directly to the accommodation for a price confirmed before travel.
Current aggregator pricing varies substantially. Some private-transfer services quote standard airport-to-Kotor cars from roughly €40–50 or more per vehicle, while premium or larger vehicles can cost considerably more. Local taxi companies may provide the same meet-and-greet style transfer for less.
This means you should compare local taxi companies with international transfer platforms instead of assuming that the first airport transfer appearing in search results represents the normal local price.
For example, current Kiwitaxi pricing for a pre-booked Tivat Airport to Kotor-area transfer starts above €40 and can rise substantially according to vehicle category, whereas Red Taxi publishes €30 for Tivat Airport to Kotor Old Town.
When Is a Private Transfer Worth It?
- You are arriving with young children.
- You need a child seat arranged in advance.
- You have several large suitcases.
- Your accommodation is outside Kotor Old Town.
- You are staying in Dobrota, Muo or Prčanj.
- Your flight arrives late in the evening.
- You are traveling as a group and can divide the vehicle cost.
- You want a driver waiting rather than arranging transport after landing.
Taxi vs Private Transfer: What Is the Difference?
For such a short route, the physical journey is essentially the same. Both take you from the airport directly to your accommodation in approximately 15–20 minutes when traffic is light.
The difference is mostly in booking and price certainty.
A taxi can be arranged after arrival and may be cheaper if you use a local company. A private transfer is normally booked before the flight, with your driver, vehicle class and total price confirmed in advance.
For a solo traveler, paying €40–50 for an international transfer platform when a local pre-booked taxi costs around €30 offers limited financial value. For a group needing a larger vehicle, however, a pre-arranged minivan may be much more practical.
What Is the Best Option for One Traveler?
If price is the priority and you travel light, walk to Tivat Bus Station and take the bus to Kotor. Even allowing for station or luggage charges, the total should normally remain only a few euros.
If convenience matters more, a local taxi or pre-booked €30 transfer is the simpler choice, although the per-person difference is large for a solo traveler.
The roadside bus method can save the walk to the station but is not predictable enough to be the first recommendation for someone arriving alone with luggage.
What Is the Best Option for Two Travelers?
The bus remains much cheaper. Two passengers may spend roughly €6–10 in total once realistic ticket and luggage costs are included, compared with around €30 for a pre-booked taxi.
That means a taxi costs around €15 each when divided between two people, which can still represent reasonable value after a flight given how short and easy the transfer becomes.
For many couples, this is the point where the decision becomes more about convenience than affordability.
What Is the Best Option for Three or Four Travelers?
A taxi becomes particularly attractive when the cost is divided among several people. A €30 car shared by four travelers costs only €7.50 each.
That is still more than an intercity bus, but the difference per person becomes relatively small and you eliminate the airport-to-bus-station walk, possible baggage charges and the walk from Kotor Bus Station to your accommodation.
Check that the vehicle actually has enough luggage space for the group. Four passengers with four large suitcases may need a larger car or minivan.
Tivat Airport to Kotor Old Town
If your accommodation is inside Kotor Old Town, the transfer is particularly simple because vehicles cannot drive through most of the historic center anyway. A taxi or private transfer will leave you close to one of the town gates, while Kotor Bus Station is only a short walk away.
This makes the bus relatively competitive for Old Town stays. Once you reach Kotor Bus Station, there is no need to buy another taxi for most accommodation inside the walls.
The Old Town itself is compact and largely pedestrianized, so renting a car purely because you are flying into Tivat Airport provides little benefit if your trip is centered on Kotor.
Tivat Airport to Dobrota
Dobrota stretches north from Kotor Old Town along the bay and contains a large share of the area’s apartments and waterfront accommodation.
If you take the bus to Kotor Bus Station, you may still need a local bus, taxi or substantial walk depending on where in Dobrota you are staying. For accommodation several kilometers north of the Old Town, a direct airport taxi becomes much more attractive.
Red Taxi’s current published Tivat Airport to Dobrota transfer price is €35.
Tivat Airport to Muo
Muo lies on the opposite side of the bay from central Kotor. It is geographically close to the Old Town but less convenient from Kotor Bus Station when you are carrying luggage.
A direct taxi therefore saves an additional local connection. Current published transfer pricing from Red Taxi puts Tivat Airport to Muo at €30.
Tivat Airport to Prčanj
Prčanj sits farther around the western shore of the bay, so describing every address in the Kotor municipality as a €15 airport journey can be misleading.
Current Red Taxi pricing lists Tivat Airport to Prčanj at €35. The direct transfer becomes more valuable here because taking an intercity bus to central Kotor and then traveling back around the bay is inconvenient with luggage.
Tivat Airport to Perast
If you are flying into Tivat but actually staying in Perast, do not travel to Kotor simply because it is the main regional bus hub unless the timetable makes that necessary.
Current Red Taxi pricing lists Tivat Airport to Perast at €45. The journey generally takes around 25–30 minutes when traffic is moving normally.
For more information about buses, parking and staying in the village, see our guide to visiting Perast.
How Long Does Tivat Airport to Kotor Take?
Airports of Montenegro gives the airport-to-Kotor road distance as approximately 8 kilometers and an indicative driving time of only 12 minutes.
Local transfer platforms use approximately 10 kilometers and 15 minutes as a normal door-to-door estimate. Either is reasonable in light traffic because the exact number depends on which part of Kotor you mean.
Summer traffic is the critical variable.
The Bay of Kotor road network has limited capacity, and congestion can become severe in July and August. A route that takes 15 minutes early in the morning may take 30 minutes or substantially longer when traffic builds.
Is Traffic Bad Between Tivat Airport and Kotor?
It can be. The physical distance is tiny, but coastal Montenegro is a good example of why distance alone is not a reliable predictor of travel time.
July and August create the biggest problems because airport arrivals, coastal holiday traffic and Kotor cruise traffic all use a relatively constrained road system.
If you are traveling from Kotor back to Tivat Airport for a flight, do not leave based on the assumption that an eight-kilometer journey will always take twelve minutes. Build a substantial traffic buffer into the departure plan during summer.
What Is the Cheapest Way Back From Kotor to Tivat Airport?
The same options work in reverse, but the bus strategy requires more care when you have a flight to catch.
You can take a Kotor–Tivat intercity bus and ask about the airport stop, but not every service will necessarily leave you directly at the terminal. The predictable budget method is to travel to Tivat Bus Station and cover the remaining approximately 1.5 kilometers separately or on foot.
Because missing a flight has far greater consequences than waiting after an arrival, many travelers reasonably choose a pre-booked taxi for the return journey even if they used the bus after landing.
Can You Walk From Tivat Airport to Kotor?
Technically the distance is short enough that walking may appear possible on a map, but it is not a sensible airport transfer.
You would be walking for many kilometers along busy roads with inconsistent pedestrian infrastructure while carrying luggage. Saving €3–5 on a bus ticket is not sufficient justification for turning the airport transfer into a two-hour roadside walk.
Walking to Tivat Bus Station is the practical upper limit for most budget travelers.
Does Montenegro Have Uber or Bolt?
No. Uber and Bolt do not currently operate in Montenegro, including Tivat Airport and Kotor.
Local taxi companies remain important, but Montenegro now also has locally focused app alternatives such as MonteGO, which works with licensed drivers and displays or agrees the fare before the trip.
This is useful for airport arrivals because it gives travelers a way to compare prices without negotiating with drivers outside the terminal.
Do You Need Cash for the Bus?
Carry euros in cash if you intend to use the intercity bus. Montenegro uses the euro, and small bus tickets, station charges and luggage fees are often easiest to handle with cash.
Do not rely on every driver, ticket desk or luggage attendant accepting an international card for a journey costing only a few euros.
Do You Need Mobile Data at Tivat Airport?
Mobile data is particularly useful at Tivat Airport because there is no single standardized transport system that every traveler uses after landing. Having internet access lets you check the current bus timetable, message your accommodation, contact a taxi company or compare a local ride-app fare.
Montenegro’s local tourist mobile packages are unusually inexpensive and include very large data allowances, so connectivity has a relatively small effect on the overall travel budget. The broader Montenegro cost guide includes current tourist mobile-data prices alongside other everyday expenses.
Should You Rent a Car at Tivat Airport?
Do not rent a car purely because you need to get from Tivat Airport to Kotor. A rental vehicle is unnecessary for the transfer itself and can create additional parking complications once you reach Kotor.
Kotor Old Town is pedestrianized, while parking around the historic center becomes difficult and expensive during peak summer. If you plan to spend the first two or three days walking around Kotor and taking boat trips, keeping a rental car parked during that time offers limited value.
A car becomes much more useful when the trip expands beyond the main coastal bus corridor. Destinations such as Durmitor, Lake Skadar, remote beaches and smaller mountain villages are considerably easier with your own vehicle.
If the itinerary continues north into the mountains, our Žabljak and Durmitor travel guide explains why the transport calculation changes once you leave the coast.
Should You Stay in Tivat Instead of Kotor?
Tivat and Kotor are only a few kilometers apart, but they provide very different travel experiences. Tivat has the airport, Porto Montenegro and a more modern waterfront environment, while Kotor has the UNESCO-listed Old Town and the dramatic enclosed end of the bay.
Choosing Tivat merely to save the airport transfer rarely makes sense because Kotor is already so close. If Kotor is where you actually want to stay, paying a few euros for a bus or approximately €30 for a taxi is unlikely to outweigh several nights in the wrong base.
Tivat Airport to Kotor vs Tivat Airport to Budva
Kotor is significantly closer to Tivat Airport than Budva. Airports of Montenegro gives approximately 8 kilometers and 12 minutes to Kotor, compared with around 21 kilometers and 27 minutes to Budva in normal road conditions.
Taxi pricing reflects that difference. Current First2Travel research for Budva Old Town puts a normal Tivat Airport taxi journey to Budva at roughly €18–22 in some current market estimates, although airport and pre-arranged transfer quotes can vary.
If your itinerary includes both towns, there is generally no transport reason to stay in Budva first simply because you flew into Tivat. Kotor is the closer arrival point.
Is a Taxi From Tivat Airport Safe?
Using a licensed taxi or established transfer service is a normal way to leave Tivat Airport. The more relevant risk for visitors is unclear or inflated pricing rather than serious personal-safety problems.
Before getting into the vehicle:
- Use a clearly licensed taxi or established transfer company.
- Ask for the approximate total fare before leaving if no fixed booking exists.
- Confirm whether the price is per vehicle rather than per passenger.
- Confirm any surcharge for a destination outside Kotor Old Town.
- Do not assume that an unsolicited airport offer is the cheapest option.
- Keep the company or booking details when traveling alone.
What Is the Best Option After a Late Flight?
Taxi or pre-booked transfer. The budget bus strategy becomes progressively less attractive once intercity services thin out and you are walking beside unfamiliar roads with luggage after dark.
A pre-booked local taxi at around €30 is particularly reasonable when arriving late because the driver already knows your flight and destination.
Solo travelers arriving after dark can also read our Montenegro safety guide for more practical advice on taxis and transport.
What Is the Best Option With Large Luggage?
Taxi or transfer. Intercity buses can carry luggage, but large bags may incur an additional fee and the bigger inconvenience is carrying them between Tivat Airport and the bus station.
The €20–25 difference between a bus journey and a taxi may be worthwhile when you have two large cases, especially if your Kotor accommodation is not directly beside the Old Town.
What Is the Best Option in July or August?
There is no universally best option because summer creates two competing problems.
Walking to the bus station is less comfortable in the heat, while taxis and transfers sit in exactly the same coastal congestion as buses. Paying more does not guarantee that the road will move faster.
For a budget traveler, the bus remains cheapest. For anyone prioritizing comfort, pre-book a taxi and allow additional time for congestion.
Summer is also when Kotor accommodation, car rental and other travel costs are at their highest. If price matters beyond the airport transfer itself, our 2026 Montenegro budget guide explains how much more July and August can cost compared with June or September.
How to Save Money From Tivat Airport to Kotor
- Walk to Tivat Bus Station and take an intercity bus if you are traveling light.
- Budget approximately €3–5 rather than assuming the lowest advertised ticket includes every station and luggage charge.
- Try the roadside airport bus stop only if you understand that boarding is less predictable.
- For two or more passengers, divide a taxi quote before deciding that €30 is expensive.
- Contact a local taxi company in advance instead of relying only on international transfer aggregators.
- Compare MonteGO with a pre-booked taxi quote.
- Do not expect Uber or Bolt to work after landing.
- Carry a small amount of euro cash for buses and luggage fees.
- Do not rent a car just for the airport transfer.
- If your accommodation is in Dobrota, Muo or Prčanj, compare a direct taxi with the cost and inconvenience of transferring again from Kotor Bus Station.
Common Tivat Airport Transfer Mistakes
Expecting a Dedicated Airport Bus
Tivat Airport does not currently operate a normal terminal-to-Kotor public shuttle. Intercity buses nearby should not be confused with a guaranteed airport bus service.
Assuming Every Passing Bus Will Stop
Some travelers successfully flag intercity buses near the airport, but this is not as reliable as boarding at Tivat Bus Station.
Paying a High Taxi Quote Without Comparing
The route is only around 8–10 kilometers. Current established local transfer pricing gives €30 to Kotor Old Town, so a dramatically higher quote for an ordinary sedan deserves comparison before accepting it.
Assuming Uber or Bolt Exists
Neither service currently operates in Montenegro. Use a licensed taxi, local ride app or pre-booked transfer instead.
Forgetting About the Exact Kotor Neighborhood
Kotor Old Town, Dobrota, Muo and Prčanj are not interchangeable taxi destinations. A transfer can cost more when the driver has to continue farther around the bay.
Judging Summer Travel Time by Distance
Eight kilometers can sound trivial, but peak-season traffic around the Bay of Kotor can substantially extend the journey.

A pre-booked €30 taxi can be excellent value because the cost becomes roughly €7.50 each while providing direct transport from the terminal to the accommodation.
What is the best option after dark?
A licensed taxi or pre-booked transfer is generally the most practical option because bus frequency is lower and walking between the airport and bus station is less appealing at night.
Bottom Line: Bus, Taxi or Transfer From Tivat Airport to Kotor?
The cheapest reliable way from Tivat Airport to Kotor in 2026 is to walk approximately 1.5 kilometers to Tivat Bus Station and take an intercity bus. The bus journey itself usually costs only a few euros and takes around 10–20 minutes, making it easily the best option for solo budget travelers who have light luggage and do not mind the walk.
Trying to flag a Kotor-bound bus from the road near the airport can reduce the walking distance, but it is less dependable because Tivat Airport does not have a conventional dedicated airport shuttle and not every passing intercity bus is guaranteed to collect passengers there.
For most couples, families and groups, a taxi offers a much better balance between cost and convenience. The airport is only around 8–10 kilometers from Kotor, and Red Taxi currently publishes a fixed €30 transfer to Kotor Old Town. Shared between four travelers, that is only €7.50 each and eliminates the walk, timetable uncertainty and luggage handling involved with the bus.
A private transfer provides the greatest predictability but can cost more, especially through international booking platforms. Compare the final quote with the current €30 local transfer benchmark before booking. The simplest rule is therefore: traveling alone with light luggage, use the bus; traveling as a couple and prioritizing comfort, compare bus and taxi; traveling with three or four people, a €30 taxi is usually very good value. Once you reach Kotor, our guides to Perast, Budva Old Town and Montenegro travel costs can help plan the rest of the coastal trip.
