The cheapest way to get from Podgorica Airport to Kotor in 2026 is to travel through central Podgorica rather than book a direct airport transfer. There is currently no regular direct public bus from the airport terminal to Kotor, so budget travelers need to reach Podgorica’s main bus and railway station area first and continue to Kotor from there.
The absolute cheapest route is usually to walk from Podgorica Airport to the nearby Aerodrom railway stop, take the train to Podgorica for €1.20 in second class and then board an intercity bus to Kotor for approximately €8–10. The train ride itself takes only about seven minutes, although the railway stop is not directly inside the airport terminal and requires a short walk.
A more convenient budget option is to take one of the buses that now run directly from Podgorica Airport to Podgorica Central Bus Station. Airport buses generally cost around €1–3, after which the onward bus to Kotor costs approximately €8–10. For most travelers with luggage, this is the best compromise between low price and straightforward travel.
A taxi or private transfer avoids the connection entirely but costs dramatically more. Current local operators quote around €80–90 for a standard Podgorica Airport to Kotor transfer, with some international transfer platforms charging €100 or considerably more. If you are planning the rest of your spending as well, our Montenegro travel cost guide covers accommodation, food, intercity buses, car rental and realistic daily budgets for Kotor and the rest of the country.

Is There a Direct Bus From Podgorica Airport to Kotor?
No regular direct public airport bus currently connects Podgorica Airport with Kotor. This is worth clarifying because some journey planners display Podgorica Airport and Kotor as though they are connected by a normal direct bus service.
The current airport bus network connects the terminal directly with Podgorica Central Bus Station, while selected services also connect the airport with Bar and Ulcinj. Travelers heading to Kotor are expected to transfer at Podgorica Bus Station, where there are numerous buses toward Kotor throughout the day.
This means that when you see a Podgorica Airport to Kotor bus itinerary online, check whether it actually contains a change in Podgorica rather than assuming one vehicle will take you directly from the airport terminal to Kotor.
Option 1: Train to Podgorica + Bus to Kotor — Cheapest Overall
The cheapest route begins with a short walk rather than directly outside the terminal. Montenegro’s railway line passes close to Podgorica Airport, and the small stop is appropriately named Aerodrom.
From Aerodrom station, trains run to Podgorica railway station several times throughout the day. The journey takes only seven minutes and the current regular fare is €1.20 in second class or €2 in first class.
Podgorica railway station and the central bus station are located beside one another, so after leaving the train you can walk directly to the bus terminal and continue toward Kotor.
How Far Is Aerodrom Train Station From Podgorica Airport?
The railway stop is not inside the terminal complex. Expect roughly 800 meters to one kilometer of walking, usually around 10–15 minutes depending on luggage and your pace.
This is the main reason the train is not automatically the best option for every traveler. Saving one or two euros is attractive for a backpacker, but less appealing if you have a large suitcase, arrive after dark or encounter very hot summer weather.
How Much Is the Train From Aerodrom to Podgorica?
The current regular ŽPCG fare is:
- Second class: €1.20.
- First class: €2.
The journey itself takes approximately seven minutes.
Current railway timetables normally include several departures between early morning and late evening, but the exact schedule can change. Check the Montenegro railway timetable for your actual travel date before relying on the connection.
What Happens After You Reach Podgorica Railway Station?
Walk to Podgorica Central Bus Station next door and buy a ticket for Kotor. Podgorica is Montenegro’s main transport hub, so there are many more departures from here than from the airport itself.
Current Podgorica to Kotor schedules include buses throughout the day, with many tickets around €8–10 and journey times of approximately two hours.
Your total transport cost can therefore be roughly:
- Train from Aerodrom to Podgorica: €1.20.
- Bus from Podgorica to Kotor: approximately €8–10.
- Total basic fare: approximately €9.20–11.20.
Allow a little extra because Montenegro bus operators commonly charge separately for luggage stored underneath the bus, and station or online booking fees can also appear depending on how you buy the ticket.
Option 2: Airport Bus to Podgorica + Bus to Kotor — Easiest Budget Option
If walking to the railway stop with luggage does not appeal to you, take a bus directly from Podgorica Airport to Podgorica Central Bus Station instead.
Regular airport bus transportation was restored in December 2024 after several years without a proper airport-to-city bus connection. The current airport transport page lists operators including BTC Zeta, MS Tours and Zejdin, with the bus stop located directly in front of the terminal in the designated bus parking area.
Tickets can be purchased on the bus or through BusTicket4.me.
How Much Is the Bus From Podgorica Airport to Podgorica Bus Station?
Current journey planners show airport-to-station fares around €1–3 depending on operator, with approximately €3 being a useful planning figure for the regular BTC Zeta service.
The ride normally takes around 15–25 minutes, although individual departures can take longer depending on their route and intermediate stops.
How Often Does the Podgorica Airport Bus Run?
There are several departures per day rather than a high-frequency airport shuttle every ten or fifteen minutes. Services are operated by different companies, which means the timetable is less intuitive than a single city-bus route.
Always check the live timetable around your flight rather than assuming another airport bus will leave immediately after you clear arrivals.
How Much Is the Bus From Podgorica to Kotor?
Current summer 2026 fares begin at around €8–10 for many departures. Some services cost more according to operator and booking channel.
BusTicket4.me currently lists numerous companies on the route, including Royal Travel, Glušica, Touring Kotor, Autoprevoz Zaton and others.
How Long Does Podgorica to Kotor Take by Bus?
The fastest current services take approximately 1 hour 55 minutes, while many departures require around 2 hours 5 minutes to 2 hours 20 minutes. Slower services can take longer depending on the route.
Montenegro is small, but road journeys are often much slower than the map suggests because buses travel through mountainous terrain and may stop in Cetinje, Budva or other towns before reaching Kotor.
How Much Does the Full Airport-Bus Route Cost?
A realistic basic budget is approximately:
- Podgorica Airport to Podgorica Bus Station: €1–3.
- Podgorica to Kotor: approximately €8–10.
- Total: roughly €9–13 per person.
Again, keep several euros available for luggage and station charges rather than assuming the cheapest online ticket is necessarily the final amount you will pay.
Train or Airport Bus: Which Is Better?
The train is technically cheaper and significantly faster for the first part of the journey. Once you are on board, Aerodrom to Podgorica takes only about seven minutes and costs €1.20.
The airport bus wins on convenience because you board directly outside the terminal and arrive at the same transport hub from which your Kotor bus departs.
- Choose the train if you travel light and its timetable fits your arrival.
- Choose the airport bus if you have a suitcase or do not want to walk along the airport access road.
- Choose a taxi or transfer if you arrive late and the public transport connections no longer work.
The price difference between the train and airport bus is usually only around one or two euros, so convenience should matter more than chasing the absolute lowest fare.
Where Does the Bus Arrive in Kotor?
Buses from Podgorica arrive at Kotor Bus Station in Škaljari, just outside the historic center.
The station is approximately 700 meters from Kotor Old Town, which means most travelers staying inside or immediately around the walls can walk to their accommodation in roughly 5–10 minutes.
This makes the public transport route particularly practical if your final destination is Kotor Old Town. If you are staying farther around the bay in Dobrota, Muo, Prčanj or another settlement, you may need an additional local bus or taxi after reaching Kotor.
How Often Do Buses Run From Podgorica to Kotor?
The route has a large number of daily departures, particularly during the summer season. BusTicket4.me currently lists services from early morning until late evening, although the precise number and times vary by weekday and season.
Current examples include departures taking approximately 1 hour 55 minutes, 2 hours 5 minutes, 2 hours 10 minutes and longer.
This means the difficult part of a public transport airport transfer is usually not finding a Podgorica to Kotor bus. The greater risk is whether your airport bus or train reaches Podgorica at a convenient time for the onward departure.
Should You Buy the Podgorica to Kotor Bus Ticket in Advance?
During ordinary travel periods, buying at the bus station can work perfectly well. In July and August, however, booking ahead can provide more certainty because Kotor and Budva attract large numbers of visitors and popular coastal services can become busy.
If your flight is vulnerable to delays, do not book an extremely tight connection. A cheap non-refundable bus ticket provides little value if passport control or baggage collection makes you miss the departure.
Leaving at least 45–60 minutes between your expected arrival at Podgorica Bus Station and the onward Kotor bus is more comfortable than trying to make a connection with only a few minutes available.
Option 3: Taxi From Podgorica Airport to Kotor
A taxi removes all transfers and normally takes around 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes, depending on traffic and the route used.
The distance is roughly 80–90 kilometers, so this is a genuine intercity transfer rather than a short airport taxi ride.
How Much Is a Taxi From Podgorica Airport to Kotor?
Current local airport-transfer companies generally quote approximately €80–90 per vehicle.
Examples from current 2026 pricing include:
- Monte Taxi listings: from approximately €80.
- Taxi Travel Montenegro: from €85.
- Taxi Podgorica Airport: €90.
- Taxipodgorica.com: fixed €90 for one vehicle carrying up to four passengers and luggage.
Because there is no universal fixed national fare for this route, confirm the total before getting into the vehicle.
Is €60 a Realistic Taxi Price?
You may occasionally see online taxi calculators estimate around €60, but current published prices from established airport-transfer companies tend to sit closer to €80–90.
A lower quote may be genuine, particularly through a local driver or ride app, but it should be confirmed in writing rather than assumed from a generic fare calculator.
Option 4: MonteGO or Local Taxi Apps
Montenegro still does not have Uber or Bolt, but local ride-booking services now provide a useful alternative to negotiating with airport drivers.
MonteGO operates at Podgorica Airport with licensed drivers and lets passengers arrange intercity transfers toward Kotor. For long-distance routes, the platform allows travelers to propose a fare and receive offers from available drivers, after which the agreed amount is fixed.
This can be particularly useful for Podgorica Airport to Kotor because the normal taxi market has a wide price range. Compare the app offers with the current €80–90 local transfer benchmark before accepting.
Does Uber Work at Podgorica Airport?
No. Uber does not currently operate in Montenegro.
Does Bolt Work at Podgorica Airport?
No. Bolt is also not currently available in Montenegro.
If you normally rely on international ride apps at airports, arrange a local option before traveling or make sure you have mobile data available after landing.
Our Montenegro eSIM guide compares the current connectivity options, including local tourist packages that provide very large data allowances for relatively little money.
Option 5: Private Transfer From Podgorica Airport to Kotor
A private transfer provides the simplest arrival experience but is generally the most expensive conventional option.
The driver monitors your flight, waits outside arrivals, assists with luggage and takes you directly to your Kotor accommodation without the need to coordinate buses or trains.
Current prices vary enormously according to platform:
- Local private taxi-style transfer: commonly around €80–90.
- Kotor-based private transfer company: around €100 for a standard vehicle on some current tariffs.
- International transfer platforms: approximately €100–130+ for a standard sedan.
- Larger vans and premium cars: considerably more.
The important lesson is not to assume that an international airport-transfer website provides the normal local price. Compare several options before booking because the difference for exactly the same road journey can exceed €40.
Taxi vs Private Transfer: Which Is Better?
The distinction is fairly small if both are booked in advance. A local taxi company charging €85–90 may provide the same airport meet-and-greet service that an international platform sells as a €120 private transfer.
The more useful comparison is therefore the final confirmed price rather than whether the website calls the service a taxi, chauffeur or private transfer.
For a solo traveler, public transport offers a huge saving. For four travelers, a €90 vehicle costs €22.50 each, making direct transportation much easier to justify.
What Is the Best Option for One Traveler?
Use public transport unless your flight arrives at an inconvenient time. The train plus bus can cost around €10 total, compared with €80–90 for a taxi.
For a solo traveler, that difference is large enough to pay for an entire day of accommodation, meals or sightseeing in Montenegro.
If you are traveling alone, our Montenegro solo travel safety guide also covers airport taxis, public transport and practical precautions when arriving after dark.
What Is the Best Option for Two Travelers?
Public transport remains considerably cheaper. Two people might spend around €20–25 total on the train or airport bus plus the Kotor coach, compared with roughly €80–90 for a private car.
A €90 transfer becomes €45 per person, so it can still be worthwhile after a long flight, particularly when arrival time makes the bus connection inconvenient.
What Is the Best Option for Three or Four Travelers?
This is where a private vehicle becomes much more competitive.
Four public transport fares may cost roughly €40–50 once luggage and station charges are included. A €80–90 car costs approximately €20–22.50 each.
The absolute saving from using buses still exists, but the gap per person is much smaller, especially when direct transport removes several hours of transfers and waiting.
What Is the Cheapest Option After a Late-Night Arrival?
Public transport becomes difficult if your flight lands after the final useful train, airport bus or Podgorica-to-Kotor coach.
In that case, you have three practical choices:
- Book a taxi or transfer directly to Kotor.
- Take a taxi into Podgorica and stay overnight before continuing by bus in the morning.
- Stay near Podgorica Airport and travel to Kotor the following day.
For a solo budget traveler, an inexpensive Podgorica hotel plus a €8–10 morning bus can sometimes cost less than an €80–90 late-night transfer to Kotor.
Podgorica is generally substantially cheaper than Kotor for accommodation, so an overnight stop is not necessarily wasted money if your arrival time is poor.
Is It Worth Staying in Podgorica Overnight?
Yes when your flight arrives late enough that the onward transport becomes inconvenient.
Many travelers treat Podgorica purely as an airport, but spending one inexpensive night in the capital can be more economical than paying almost €100 for a private transfer solely to reach Kotor after midnight.
The calculation is particularly attractive for solo travelers. If a hotel costs €35–50 and the next morning’s bus costs about €8–10, you can still spend substantially less than the private transfer price.
For broader trip-planning advice, see our Montenegro travel tips, which cover buses, cash, accommodation registration and getting around independently.
How Long Does Podgorica Airport to Kotor Take?
By taxi or private transfer, allow approximately 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes under ordinary conditions.
By public transport, total travel time is usually closer to three hours and can be longer because you need to account for:
- Walking or waiting for airport transport.
- The first journey to Podgorica.
- Waiting for the Kotor bus.
- The approximately two-hour intercity bus journey.
The actual difference between bus and taxi therefore involves far more than the driving time itself.
Why Does Podgorica to Kotor Take So Long?
Montenegro is geographically small, but the landscape makes road travel slow. Kotor lies behind coastal mountains, and buses may travel through Cetinje, Budva or other intermediate towns depending on the service.
Mountain roads, scheduled stops and summer congestion mean that an approximately 80–90 kilometer journey can take two hours or more by bus.
July and August are the least predictable months because traffic around Budva and the Bay of Kotor becomes particularly heavy.
Podgorica Airport to Kotor Old Town
If you are staying inside Kotor Old Town, public transport works particularly well because Kotor Bus Station is only about 700 meters from the historic walls.
After arriving by bus, you can usually walk to the Old Town in around 5–10 minutes rather than paying for another taxi.
Cars cannot drive through most of the historic center anyway, so even a private airport transfer will normally leave you outside one of the Old Town entrances.
Podgorica Airport to Dobrota
Dobrota stretches several kilometers north of Kotor along the bay. If your accommodation is in the southern part of Dobrota, walking from Kotor may still be practical, but properties farther north usually require a local bus or taxi.
This makes a direct airport transfer more valuable than it is for someone staying inside Kotor Old Town because the bus route introduces another connection after you finally reach Kotor.
Podgorica Airport to Muo or Prčanj
Muo and Prčanj sit on the opposite shore from Kotor Old Town, so arriving at Kotor Bus Station does not place you directly beside your accommodation.
Budget travelers can still travel through Kotor and continue locally, but couples or groups should compare the total inconvenience with the price of a direct airport transfer.
Can You Take a Train All the Way to Kotor?
No. Kotor has no railway station.
The railway option is useful only for the short airport-to-Podgorica portion of the journey. From Podgorica onward, you need a bus, rental car, taxi or private transfer.
Can You Travel via Budva?
Some Podgorica-to-Kotor buses travel through Budva, but there is normally no reason to split the journey there deliberately unless you are actually planning to stay in Budva.
Changing buses introduces another connection without producing a meaningful saving compared with buying a direct Podgorica-to-Kotor ticket.
Should You Rent a Car at Podgorica Airport?
If Kotor is only one stop on a wider Montenegro road trip, picking up a rental car at Podgorica Airport can make sense. If you only need transportation to Kotor and plan to remain there for several days, renting a vehicle solely for the transfer is usually unnecessary.
Kotor Old Town is pedestrianized, parking is limited and traffic around the bay becomes difficult in summer. A rental car sitting unused near your accommodation can cost more than taking buses and occasional taxis.
A car becomes more useful if you plan to visit Lovćen, Lake Skadar, Durmitor, Piva Lake or rural destinations where buses provide much less flexibility.
Is Driving From Podgorica Airport to Kotor Difficult?
The main roads are paved and manageable for experienced drivers, but the route involves Montenegro’s winding terrain and can become tiring after a flight.
Summer traffic, aggressive overtaking and narrow roads around the Bay of Kotor require more attention than the short geographic distances suggest.
If you plan to rent a car, our Montenegro safety guide includes current road-safety advice, while the first-time Montenegro guide covers the practical trade-offs between driving and public transport.
Does Uber Work at Podgorica Airport?
No. Uber does not currently operate in Montenegro.
Does Bolt Work at Podgorica Airport?
No. Bolt does not currently operate in Montenegro either.
Travelers who want app-based booking can use local services such as MonteGO or contact licensed taxi companies directly.
Do You Need Cash for the Bus?
Carry some euro cash. Montenegro uses the euro despite not being part of the eurozone, and buses, luggage charges and station fees are not always as card-friendly as hotels and restaurants.
Tickets can often be purchased online, but having €10–20 in small notes is useful when completing a multi-stage airport transfer.
How Much Does Luggage Cost on Montenegro Buses?
BusTicket4.me notes that luggage is normally charged per bag depending on the carrier. There is no single national baggage fare covering every company.
The charge is generally small, but travelers comparing bus and taxi prices should not assume that the headline ticket price is always the entire transport cost.
If two or three people each have large luggage, the cumulative bus costs move slightly closer to the price of sharing a private vehicle.
What Is the Best Option in July and August?
Public transport remains cheapest, but peak season changes the convenience calculation.
Kotor and Budva experience intense summer demand, buses can be busy, road traffic becomes slower and temperatures make walking between Podgorica Airport and Aerodrom railway station less appealing.
If you still want the budget option, use the airport bus rather than walking to the train station with heavy luggage. If speed and comfort matter more, book your transfer in advance rather than negotiating after arrival.
July and August are also Montenegro’s most expensive months for accommodation and car rental. If your dates are flexible, our best time to visit Montenegro guide explains why June and September usually provide a better balance of weather, crowds and prices.
How to Save Money From Podgorica Airport to Kotor
- Walk to Aerodrom railway station if you travel light and the train timetable fits your flight.
- Use the €1.20 second-class train rather than a taxi into Podgorica.
- Take the airport bus directly to Podgorica Bus Station when luggage makes the train walk inconvenient.
- Book the Podgorica to Kotor bus rather than paying for a private car as a solo traveler.
- Allow a realistic connection time instead of buying a bus that leaves immediately after your scheduled landing.
- Carry small euro notes for luggage and station charges.
- Compare MonteGO and several local taxi companies before paying an international transfer-platform price.
- If you arrive very late, compare one night in Podgorica plus a morning bus with an €80–90 transfer.
- Do not rent a car purely to reach Kotor if you plan to leave it parked for several days.
- Travel outside July and August when possible if your entire Montenegro trip is budget-focused.
Common Podgorica Airport to Kotor Mistakes
Expecting a Direct Public Airport Bus
There is currently no regular direct public bus from Podgorica Airport to Kotor. Normal bus itineraries require a transfer at Podgorica Central Bus Station.
Missing the Aerodrom Train Station
The station exists, but it is not inside the airport terminal. You need to walk roughly 10–15 minutes to reach it.
Assuming the Train Goes to Kotor
Kotor has no railway connection. The airport train only saves money on the first section between Aerodrom and Podgorica.
Booking an Extremely Tight Bus Connection
Flight delays, immigration and baggage collection can easily consume the connection time. Leave enough margin before your Podgorica-to-Kotor departure.
Paying €120 for a Transfer Without Comparing Local Companies
Current local fixed-price transfers can be found around €80–90, while international booking platforms can charge €100–130 or more for essentially the same road journey.
Assuming Uber or Bolt Will Be Available
Neither currently operates in Montenegro. Arrange a local taxi app or another transfer option instead.
Underestimating Summer Traffic
The distance between Podgorica and Kotor does not look large on a map, but July and August congestion can add substantial time to the journey.

Bottom Line: Cheapest Way From Podgorica Airport to Kotor
The cheapest way from Podgorica Airport to Kotor in 2026 is not a direct airport bus, because no regular direct public connection currently operates between the terminal and Kotor. Instead, budget travelers should travel through Podgorica Central Bus Station.
The absolute lowest-cost route is to walk roughly 10–15 minutes from the terminal to Aerodrom railway station, take the €1.20 train to Podgorica and then board a bus to Kotor for approximately €8–10. The basic transport total can therefore remain close to €10 before luggage or station charges.
For most travelers, however, taking the airport bus directly from the terminal to Podgorica Bus Station is the better budget choice. The first section costs only around €1–3 and avoids walking to the railway stop, while the same onward buses to Kotor are available from the station.
A taxi or private transfer is much faster but currently costs around €80–90 with many local operators and €100 or more through some international transfer platforms. That is difficult to justify for a solo traveler but becomes much more reasonable for three or four people sharing the vehicle.
The simplest rule is therefore: traveling alone with light luggage, use train plus bus; traveling with a suitcase, use airport bus plus Kotor bus; arriving very late or traveling as a group, compare local taxi and transfer prices.
